Welcome from Sarah MacLaren
As of August, 2014 I will have worked at LOVE Nova Scotia for 15 years. In August of 1999 I attended my first LOVE Leadership Training Camp in Haliburton, Ontario with LOVE Leaders from Montreal and Toronto. Several weeks later LOVE installed a phone line in the spare room of the house I was sharing with a friend. By January, 2000 the University of King’s College was providing us with the space to run our programs and we had seven volunteers to help teach writing and photography and about 16 kids enrolled in our entrylevel Photojournalism Program (now MAP). We had one staff person, a phone number and one program. Fifteen years later we are running nine programs, have 13 full- and part-time staff and 158 youth enrolled in our direct service programs. This transformation could not have happened without a broad and diverse community of people helping us in a wide variety of ways. I am very grateful to everyone who has supported LOVE by volunteering with our youth, helping us secure funding or providing a word of sage advice at a pivotal moment. I feel the greatest sense of gratitude, however, towards the youth we work with. Over the past 15 years, they have served as my role models and teachers, providing me with an astounding breadth of instruction. The patience, generosity and kindness they have shown me serve as daily reminders of the type of person that I myself strive to be.
Thank you for your interest and support,
